Vinegar Yard---Can Bermondsey Street get any trendier?

Welcome to Vinegar Yard, a new hangout in Bermondsey.  After coming off its year as the Sunday Times' "Best Place to Live in London",  Bermondsey just upped the ante even more with this fenced market tucked away just behind The Shard and the London Bridge Train Station. Just what the residents of Bermondsey Street would have ordered!

Vinegar Yard is a fun outdoor eating, drinking and shopping destination created by CIT (of Flat Iron Square fame). It just opened its doors to the public on April 3, 2019, but based upon initial interest, it is going to be one happening spot.

Since I live right nearby, I've been watching the ants go up (haha!) and the place spring from a pile of rubble to this, over the last 9 months.  Most of the below photos were taken at 7:30 am, so clearly, not much going on at that hour, but still, I'm hoping you will get a feel for the layout.

The absolute first thing you will notice when you come is the group of ants crawling along a train carriage! This is just one of the giant metal installations by the London based artist Joe Rush, who has his studio inside the bar area (just past the toilets).

Anchored by the Vinegar Yard Bar and The Gentleman Baristas, this place has some serious vibes going on, with a DJ and tunes that keep the pace until around midnight on weekends.

The fenced in area is comprised of an outer street food area, an indoor area covered with metal art installations, a full bar and coffee shop, and a further container area which transforms into a weekend flea market.

Here is a shot of the containers housing the weekend flea market.

And some of the merchandise sold here!

Gentleman Barista's is one of my favorite coffee spots (located just behind Borough Market) and so it is exciting to see that they have expanded here to Vinegar Yard. You might remember from a previous blog that these gentlemen baristas were the ones that introduced me to OATLY! Well, new tip for all you oat milk lovers---Baristas has found a new maker of Oat milk that doesn't have to be transported from Sweden. Minor Figures is made right here in London and it tastes just as good as Oatly Barista, in my expert opinion-ha!

Here are just a few pictures of the fantastic creatures and mechanisms created by metal artist Joe Rush in his studio here.

Hope you enjoyed this little preview of the new Vinegar Yard! See you there this weekend!
